چکیده
T HE IN VIVO method of tissue culture using cellulose ester filter diffusion chambers developed by Algire and co-workers1 combined with the autoradiographic method of observing cells labeled with the specific DNA precursor, tritiated thymidine, has been used in the present experiments to study lymphocytopoiesis in an isolated population of lymphoid cells. In addition, data are presented concerning the transforming abilities of thoracic duct cells when cultured in the diffusion chambers, either separately or combined with bone marrow cells.

متن کاملDetermination of lymphocyte turnover by continuous infusion of H3 thymidine.
ECENTLY, the life span of the lymphocyte has become a subject of considerable interest as well as controversy among hematologists. The large numbers of lymphocytes entering the general circulation from the thoracic duct point to a short life span of less than a day,1 while isotopic experiments24 indicate either long life spans of weeks or months or reutilization of large fragments of nuclear co...

By STEPHEN H. ROBINSON, GEORGE BRECHER, IRA S. LoumE AND JAMES E. P ROLONGED SURVIVAL of a significant fraction of small lymphocytes was suggested by Ottesen and by Hamilton.12 Their findings at first seemed incompatible with the observation that lymphocytes leave the thoracic duct at a rate sufficient to replace all circulating forms within hours.3 However, continuous recirculation of lymphocy...
متن کاملTHE PRESENCE OF IgA ON THE SURFACE OF RAT THORACIC DUCT LYMPHOCYTES WHICH
Thoracic duct lymph contains a minority population of cells consisting of large lymphocytes, all of which can be labeled with a short course of tritiated thymidine in vivo (1) and which do not recirculate (2) . Many of these large lymphocytes migrate from the blood into the lamina propria of the small intestine where they become plasma cells (2, 17) . The idea that large lymphocytes may be an i...
